JUVÉDERM® is a product designed to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles that appear as a natural part of aging, possibly exacerbated by sun exposure or smoking. Its remarkable rejuvenating effects, while not permanent, can last for 9 months to one year, improving self-esteem as well as appearance. Juvederm, one of a family of injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, has been FDA-approved since 2007.
After the positive effects of Juvederm injections have worn off, patients can undergo subsequent treatments to maintain their youthful appearance.
Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus are both now available in “XC” forms as well, meaning that lidocaine, a topical anesthetic, has been added to their formulation.
On what part of the face is Juvederm most helpful?
Juvederm is most helpful in correcting moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (the lines from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth) and in augmenting lips and apples of the cheeks, giving them a more youthful, attractive appearance.
Manhattan’s best MedSpa will make you look 10 years younger without surgery and no downtime.
While there are other dermal fillers, Juvederm products have the advantage of being gels with a smooth, malleable consistency. Some other products are more granular in texture, creating a bumpy skin texture. Typically, as a result of one treatment, patients experience dramatic results that last for up to a year.
Candidates for treatment should be at least 21 years of age While perfectly safe for most patients, individuals in should not have Juvederm treatments if they:
As with all elective medical and aesthetic procedures, you should be in good health going into treatment to minimize any possibility of complications. It is important that you inform your healthcare professional if you are unwell or, for any reason, at increased risk of infection, if you have a skin injury near the area to be treated, or if you are taking any blood-thinning medications, including aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen.
Before treatment, you may have to temporarily stop taking certain medications to prevent excessive bleeding or bruising.
The Juvederm treatment is brief. The healthcare professional injects the targeted area of the skin with a fine needle. Positive results should be visible immediately, although some minor swelling at the injection site may obscure these temporarily.
Right after a treatment, subjects should expect tenderness, redness, swelling, bruising, and possibly firmness or bumps at the injection site. All such after effects should be resolved in 1 to 2 weeks. Other, more serious complications are extremely rare.
During the first 24 hours after treatment, patients should avoid the following, any of which may lead to increased redness, itching or swelling:
Patients should also check with their healthcare provider about how long to wait before applying make-up after the procedure or before having any other cosmetic treatments, such as chemical peels or laser treatments.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC is indicated for deep (subcutaneous and/or supraperiosteal) injection for cheek augmentation to correct age-related volume deficit in the mid-face in adults over the age of 21.
